    The program of the four-day-visit, which took place on 18-21 August 2018 in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney, focused on political and economic issues, as well as on the Polish community.

    President Andrzej Duda held bilateral talks with the Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, Prime Minister of Australia, HE General the Hon Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Ret`d), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, HE the Hon Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria and HE General the Hon David Hurley AC DSC (Ret`d) Governor of New South Wales. He also held plenary talks with the Hon Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, Minister for Defence, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, Minister for Defence Industry and the Hon Steven Ciobo MP,  Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, as well as with the Hon Bill Shorten MP, the Leader of the Opposition and a few members of the Shadow Cabinet.  

    The Polish President was accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Polish Ministry of National Defence, headed by Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, who arrived in Australia at the invitation of the Australian Department of Defence.

     

    An important element of the President`s visit were economic issues, including the inauguration of the Polish-Australian Energy Forum, a meeting with Australian investors and the launch of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency office in Sydney.  

     

    The President and the First Lady also held a series of meetings with the Polish community and celebrated the centenary of Poland regaining independence. At the meetings, President Duda presented state awards to Australian politicians and members of the Polish community who rendered outstanding services to the Polish community in Australia.  

     

    President Duda also paid a visit to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, where he laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on behalf of the Polish people and to the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne where he participated in the service to mark the 77th anniversary of the relief of the Australian 9th Division by the Polish Independent Carpathian Brigade during the siege of Tobruk of 1941. The commemoration at the Shrine of Remembrance afforded an opportunity for President Duda to meet with Polish and Australian veterans.
